It’s been said that the more things change, the more they say the same.  It has also been suggested that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.  Fashion, no matter how reportedly ‘original’ tends to repeat.  Maybe not right down to the seamstresses’ pattern, but at the very least, a more than obvious hint, at what used to be.  If it’s been decades since you were in your teens you’re going to appreciate this article as a flashback in time.  If you are still in your teens or just barely out of them you might have a good laugh… or go into culture shock. Whatever.

Teen Idols Yesterday And Today: My How Times Have Changed

‘New Age’ Changes Every Minute

If you want to know how today’s teens dress to stay in fashion, but comfortable and presentable you can make a quick stop at a location that not only has pictures, but discounts on those fashions: PacSun Coupons at TeenScreen.org is a great example of teens at their best.  Of course, seldom will you see your average teenager looking that polished and sparkly fresh, but you’ll get the idea.  And, though generally speaking girls (sorry… ladies) are more apt to admit to being a fashion slave, guys want to look like they fit in, too.  Take a look at today’s most popular teens and, though some are no longer teens themselves,  teen idols: Justin Bieber,  Miley Cyrus, Jamie Lynn Spears (yes, the sister), Vanessa Hudgens and so many more. But… take a look below at what today’s idols are getting away with!

No Longer No. 1 With A Bullet

Barry Williams and Eve Plumb (Brady Bunch), David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce (Partridge Family), Bobby Sherman, Rick Springfield, Davy Jones (The Monkees) and Jack Wilde are names that few (if any) teens would recognize as being heartthrobs.  And, though certainly not a teenager, back in 1976 there wasn’t a teenage boy that didn’t have a giant poster of Ms. Farrah Fawcett on their wall or ceiling (strategically placed above their bed).  Many of these, at least at first, carried squeaky clean personas.  That was the way it was back then.  Maybe the stress of being so utterly angelic in their developing years contributed to many of their downfalls with drugs, debt and diminishing good looks.

In Definite Contrast

The squeaky clean image is obviously, so last year… or more!  Here’s a sampling of what plagues teen idols today.  Yet they don’t seem much worse for the wear! Justin: crazy hairdos aside this party boy has been kicked out of some of the nicest hotels; Miley: oh my Miley… taking off her clothes, smoking pot… my achy breaky heart just don’t understand!  Jamie Lee looked like she was going to be the good sister… then she became and unwed mother.  And, what was cute little Vanessa thinking when those nudie photos surfaced?

Styles may repeat, but we can only hope that what eventually happened to so many of yesterday’s teen idols and what is already happening to today’s will not be the stuff of history repeating itself!
