These days, it’s hip to be square. In contemporary pop culture, this public adoration for the un-cool is apparent in everything from fashion to music. If you’ve been bitten by the bug, then you can get your fix almost any day of the week, in the comfort of your own home. Here are five modern TV sitcoms every geek will love:

The Big Bang Theory. This is perhaps the most popular of the geeky series on this list. It follows two roommates (played by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki) who are physicists at Caltech, and their ultra quirky group of friends that includes astrophysicists, aerospace engineers, and an attractive waitress/wannabe actress. The Big Bang Theory airs Thursday nights at 8:00pm on CBS.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Marvel comic book fans are sitting on the edge of their seats for the first season of what many are speculating to be a sure hit. Produced by Marvel Television and set in the popular (and fictitious) Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this series will chronicle the crime-fighting adventures of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they combine their strengths and flex their ingenuity muscle to battle villainous superhumans. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is slated to run in ABC’s primetime schedule, starting September 2013.

Adventure Time. Sure, this is a cartoon, but there’s no way of getting around loving it if you’re a geek, no matter what age you are. In addition to its exceptionally eccentric cast of characters (where else will you find a pink cloud that chooses to live as a hobo, or a “Lumpy Space Princess?”), Adventure Time offers some truly epic . . . adventures . . . that are sure to get the brain juices flowing. Find Adventure Time on Cartoon Network.

Doctor Who. There’s a reason this show has been around since the 1960’s and showing no signs of going anywhere: Geeks love it. It’s undeniable that the doctor himself is about as geeky as they come, with his intelligence, wit, and
Macgyver-like ingenuity. However, it’s arguable that the space and time travel premise of the television show is what keeps fans coming back year after year after year. Doctor Who airs in a variety of days and time slots on the BBC.

Game of Thrones. As far as geeky obsessions go, Game of Thrones is probably the “coolest,” as it has garnished a lot of attention from audiences of all types. Still, it has everything fantasy geeks are known to love, from dragons to kingdoms ruled by battling noble families. Game of Thrones is scheduled to go into its fourth season on HBO in 2014.
