Pelvic floor is a set of muscles, tissues and ligaments which stretch from the pubic bone in the front and goes back to the base of the spine. Being pregnant imposes a lot of stress on the pelvic floor. Constipation being a common problem during this time can also stress the pelvic muscles. So, when a woman is pregnant, it is essential that she does the pelvic floor exercises correctly so that there is no leakage of the wee. If these muscles are strong, the woman can easily deal with the increasing weight during pregnancy. After the birth takes place, the area around the vagina is healed quickly. Also, during an intercourse, the woman feels more satisfied due strong pelvic muscles.
Initially, when a lady starts doing the pelvic floor exercise, it is important to note that you do not have to hold the breath when you squeeze. While passing urine, you need to check which muscles you have to focus on and this can be found by controlling the flow of urine. It is important to squeeze the muscles without squeezing the legs, holding the breath, tightening the buttocks and pulling the upper tummy inside. Such exercises help the pelvic floor muscles in reacting properly and quickly. So, initially one should start with mastering the slow contractions.
One should do these exercises 8-12 times, minimum three times a day. Include more in the daily routine if you feel the need. It is advisable to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles before pregnancy so that after the birth of the child, the recovery is better and quicker. During the second stage of labor, when the head of the baby crowns, the pelvic muscles should relax. A relaxed pelvic floor prevents the tearing. Pelvic floor during pregnancy can also be protected by the intake of lot of fluids. So, one should urinate only when the bladder feels full so that the pelvic floor is well protected.
