Your bedroom is your haven. It is where you go to relax, to reprieve. It is your sanctuary when you just want to escape the hectic world we live in. if nothing else, it’s at least the place you sleep and recharge your vessel. That being said, the better your room, the more relaxed you will feel and the more emotionally rested you will be.
How does your room affect your mood, you ask? Well, to be honest, there are a lot of factors which contribute to making up a room and thereby, effecting us subconsciously. Your furniture is what makes up the most part of your room. The most basic and universally liked colors are brown and white. And sometimes black. Shades may vary but these are the most commonly used. But, what color (shade) or size that furniture should be, depends on numerous factors.
- Color of the Walls:
The first and most important factor that a lot of people don’t give a second thought to, but around which the entire scheme of your room revolves is the color of your walls. Yes, that’s right, paint. If you want your room to look good and be a place where you feel relaxed, then picking a good soothing color is the key. A lot of people play it safe and go with white but that is not the only color out there and certainly not the most creative. Neutral colors, blues and greens etc. all are pretty soothing but creative at the same time. Your choice in the color of your furniture depends on the color of your walls.
- Lighting:
The second most important factor is the lighting. The placement of lights as well as their brightness is an important point to keep in mind while choosing your furniture. The color of your lights also effects how your furniture is presented. White light brings everything into focus and the color of your furniture is not highlighted. Yellow light however, creates a look that is complimentary to brown furniture, no matter what shade.
- Size of the Room:
The size of the room is a necessary evil to be conquered while choosing a color for your furniture. It is a proven fact that white tends to give the illusion that the room is larger. So if your room is small, white is the best option. But keep in mind the color of your walls as well.
- Brightness:
The choice of your furniture also depends on the natural brightness of the room i.e. how many windows, doors or balconies does your room have. If your room has a lot of sunlight then brown is the best shade for you. But, if your room is naturally dark then either a light tone of brown, such as caramel or hazel or biscuit brown etc. or white is the better option for you.
- Whose Room is it:
What you need to keep in mind while choosing furniture is whose room is being decorated? A kid’s room would most likely be decorated with bright colored furniture. A teenager would prefer vibrant colors or touches to the furniture whereas, most adults prefer a neutral color and the normal shades of furniture. So the choice needs to be made according to preference as well as age.Although there are two basic colors that people tend to use with different variations, some people like to be innovative and adventurous. But most consensuses are that browns and whites are the go to when it comes to furniture in your room. So, that being said, play it safe but also utilize your creativeness in other factors of your room because your room is ultimately your identity and most importantly your get away.
