Why It’s Never Too Late To Save Your Smile

Dental implant technology is a godsend to those who have lost tooth structure to extraction, injury, disease or old age. Implants, which are artificial teeth anchored in place through the gums and in the jawbone, fully restore lost function. They can take the place of missing teeth both in appearance and in function. Made of ultra-strong alloys and screwed into the jawbone as they are, implants can be even stronger than real teeth.

The case of crooked teeth

In many cases, dental implants aren’t considered by those who need the technology the most — those who suffer from severe misalignment of the teeth. In most cases, misalignment can be corrected through the use of braces. For adults, it usually takes no more than a year of correction to bring one tooth or many into line. In some instances, though, such as with severe crowding of the teeth, correction through braces may be difficult. Dentists may recommend extraction and implanting. It can be wonderfully effective. Unfortunately, many simply won’t consider the option if they are past 40. It is common for people to give up on themselves past a point.

To begin, there is no technical upper age limit

It’s possible to be too young for dental implants. Dentists usually do not recommend implants for those under 20; they do not take well when the jaw is in the process of growing. There is no upper age limit when it comes to suitability for implants, though. You wouldn’t be too old for dental implants if you were old enough to lose teeth to old age. Technically, anyone who is a reasonable state of health to be able to heal from the procedure is in good enough shape to accept dental implants.

Dental implant treatment can ensure improved physical and psychological health

According to Total Freedom Dental Implant Center in Scottsdale, AZ, an influential study published in the Journal of Dentistry in 2005 called The impact of conventional and implant supported prostheses on social and sexual activities in edentulous adults: Results from a randomized trial 2 months after treatment found that crooked teeth could have serious impact on a person’s ability to function and achieve a satisfactory level of happiness. It could get in the way of a person’s eating, speaking and ability to get intimate. These challenges can severely affect a person throughout their life. On average, though, significant improvement comes with no more than two dental implants.

Lower and upper jaw dental implants can be a huge improvement to those in old age, as well. When a person suffers from arthritis, handling dentures often becomes a terrible challenge.

Implants are the future

Quality dental implant science could offer a huge improvement to the quality of life millions of people. They are affordable and effective.
