Child care is one of those subjects where there just can’t be any doubt that you’re getting high quality service for your money.
You have to be absolutely certain that when you drop your child off in the morning, he will be safe and happy until you pick him up at the end of the day.
And this must be the case every single day, without exception.
When you begin the search for the right child care center,
there are a handful of qualities to keep in mind so
you do the very best for your kids and yourself.
A Licensed Facility
The Day Nurseries Act makes it mandatory for any premises that has more than five kids under 10 years of
age who have different parents to be properly licensed as a day nursery.
Any establishment that provides care under these
circumstances without the proper license is committing an offense, and should be avoided.
Any reputable facility will have a copy of their license up for all to see, and don’t hesitate to ask about their license whether you see it or not.
Accessibility
It’s important to know that the management and workers at your child care are accessible if you have questions about any aspect of the program or your child’s care.
That’s not to say you should be able to call in the evening or weekends, but their should be transparency in every aspect.
Affordability
It’s no secret to anyone with kids that child care can be quite expensive.
And while you aren’t going to find a huge difference in the price when comparing different child care centers, you still have to find one that is affordable for you.
In some places, you may be able to get a subsidy to help with the cost, and in Canada parents are eligible for the Universal Child Care Benefit.
Diverse Programs
Although safety is by far the most important element of a daycare, finding one that has a diverse program is also important.
There’s no reason why your child can’t learn basic skills, manners and problem solving while being cared for each day.
A Good Feeling
At the end of the day, having a good feeling about the child care facility is always a good indicator of being pointed in the right direction.
If you have a bad feeling for whatever reason, go with your instincts, and keep looking.
