According to a new found study, it has been found out by the researchers that lifestyle factors too help women gain healthy pregnancy. This report is based on the data which was collected from 5600 women or more from around the world. These women are based in places like Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and England.

All these women have accepted that lifestyle does help in the 15 to 20 weeks of gestation period which in turn attributes in attaining healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy. These factors associated with lifestyle includes keeping a tab on the weight, eating healthy food like fruits, vegetables, staying away from alcohol and drugs, keeping a job, low blood pressure, etc.

Lucy Chappell who belongs to the Women’s Health Academic Center of King’s College, London claims that normal pregnancy is the likely result achieved by women who maintain a healthy lifestyle before and after their pregnancy. 61 percent of the women who participated in the study had pregnancy free of any complications. Out of this 61 percent, 58 percent women were from Ireland and England who had achieved this which was comparatively lower than that of New Zealand and Australia which contributed to 63 percent of uncomplicated pregnancy.

Researchers found that certain modifiable lifestyle factors that are harmful during the gestation period of pregnancy are high blood pressure, abuse of drugs and alcohol and gaining extra weight. The modifiable factors other than the above factors which actually help in reducing the chances of complications during pregnancy are consumption of fruits before and during pregnancy and continuation of work even in the 15th week of pregnancy.

Other lifestyle factors which are not controllable or which are not in the hands of the women are family history of high blood pressure, poor standard of life, bleeding during gestation period of pregnancy and taking of birth control pills before pregnancy which contributes to high blood pressure. These factors increase the chances of complications during pregnancy.

Problems associated with pregnancy which are most common to most women were preterm birth which was 4 percent, preeclampsia-a variation in blood pressure which was 5 percent, high blood pressure which was 8 percent and the small size of the babies during the gestation period in comparison with their gestation age contributed to 11 percent. Though the study have come up with these modifiable lifestyle factors which are healthy as well as harmful before and during pregnancy but it has not yet proven the relationship of cause and effect.
