How To Work Well With Your Landscaper

How To Work Well With Your Landscaper

The best landscapers in Calgary can improve curb appeal and add value to your home with thoughtful and beautiful landscape design. Working with a landscape contractor will be a little different than working with typical home improvement companies. Read on to learn how to work well with your landscaper and ensure your project runs smoothly.

Always bring your Questions and Concerns to the Landscaper.

Unlike a kitchen renovation or other major home remodel, a landscape project shouldn’t interfere too much with your family’s day-to-day living. Not only are they working outside, they won’t be meeting you as often as an indoor contractor.  That’s why it’s important that you engage with your landscaping contractor if you have any questions and concerns. Ask if you can set up daily or weekly meetings with the crew leader to ask questions, air grievances and let them know if you are pleased with the work so far. A good contractor will always be eager to answer your questions and keep you in the loop.

Open Communication can Reduce Friction.

Take the time to inform the crew of anything that might be important to you during the project. For example, inform them of any pets that might be using the yard while the project is in progress and ask them to keep gates closed. Let them know if you prefer to keep your property a no-smoking zone or if they should be aware of a particularly difficult neighbor that might give them trouble. Letting them know these things will prevent any bad friction.

Make Sure they have Access to what they need.

Even though they’re working outside, the landscape company will need access to electrical outlets, water and parking in the front or near the house. When you hire them, make sure to point out where these things are to keep the project flowing smoothly.

Consider Offering your Bathroom.

Most landscapers will not expect to use your bathroom but will be very pleased if you offer it to them and their crew. If the project is large-scale, they might rent and place a temporary portable bathroom in the yard, but in most cases, their workers will leave the site to use the washroom. It’s up to you, but it is good etiquette to offer the use of your facilities if there is no outdoor toilet. Not only will they appreciate it, but they’ll spend more time working on your yard and less time looking for a washroom. This could reduce your overall labor charges.
