How To Naturally Improve Tooth Enamel

If your tooth enamel is starting to wear down, you know just how painful it can be. Aside from the pain you feel while brushing your teeth, you likely feel a lot of pain when eating or drinking things that are particularly hot or cold. Moreover, it can be much harder to remove stains from your teeth, which makes smiling a lot more painful as well. If you would like to stop this issue before it gets out of hand, here is how to naturally improve tooth enamel.

  1. Use a softer toothbrush. If your tooth enamel is wearing down, it could be because your toothbrush has very firm bristles that are too firm for your teeth. Well, that’s likely not the root cause, but it definitely won’t help the situation. So be sure that you find a toothbrush with soft bristles and make sure that you go gentle with the brushing – and get the rest with some dental floss.
  2. Use toothpaste that is designed for sensitive teeth. If your tooth enamel is already a bit worn down, you’ll know because it probably hurts when you brush your teeth. The more worn down your tooth enamel is, the more sensitive your teeth are going to be. If this is the case, then you’re definitely going to want to buy some toothpaste that is a lot less abrasive – in addition to using a softer bristled toothbrush. Anything you can do to be nice to your teeth will really improve the situation, and make toothbrushing a less painful process.
  3. Cut down on acidic drinks. Beverages like coffee, black tea, and sodas – especially dark sodas – can be very corrosive to your tooth enamel. If you have a habit or addiction to any of these beverages, they could definitely be the root cause of your worn down tooth enamel. Unfortunately, the more they wear the enamel down, the more they stain your teeth – so it’s quite the vicious cycle. Anything you can do to cut down your intake will have a dramatically positive effect on your oral hygiene.
  4. Have your tooth enamel restored. Some dental groups, like embassy dental, can restore enamel and give your teeth the protection they need, so that you don’t need to worry about it for the rest of your life. This may seem like a large expense right now, but you should look at it as an investment. After all, the longer you wait to have the procedure taken care of, the more difficult and expensive it will be to correct it.
  5. Use a gentle mouthwash. One of the best ways to get plaque and food particles out of your mouth so that they don’t eat at your tooth enamel is to always rinse your mouth out thoroughly after each meal. Ideally, you want to do everything you can to keep the acids and the sugars from your meals off of your teeth so that they don’t eat away at your enamel. If you don’t have mouthwash on hand, it is still definitely worthwhile to rinse your mouth out very well with water.
