A Winter Holiday in La Tania

A beautiful ski resort, La Tania holds numerous attractions for those visiting for the first time, or for those who are returning because they have such fond memories of the skiing and the pristine Alpine forests. Located in The Three Valleys, in the Courchevel area, it is an idyllic getaway for people who want to combine skiing and outdoor activities with a stay in one of the amazing catered chalets. Set up at about 1400m above sea level, it is a purpose built village with facilities constructed for the 1992 Albertville Olympics.

It is rustic and beautiful, and only a 30-minute drive from Moutiers and yet it seems idyllically isolated and out of the way. Coming here for your ski holiday is definitely worth the excursion, with restaurants and cafes, and great slopes. Make your stay a real treat by booking one of the rustic and luxurious catered chalets in the village.

Skiing in La Tania

Skiing in La Tania offers slopes of many different levels and even though there are quite a few excellent on piste ski slopes, La Tania is very well known for it’s several great ‘wild’ ski runs. On these slopes the powder can go untouched for days, giving a great soft snow for skiing. Skiers here take the time to enjoy the excitement of the unmarked trails through the forest, down the mountain, and back to the village, often skiing right back to their catered chalets. If these wild slopes are not your style, there are also many quality marked trails, and there is even a free beginners’ lift available that runs throughout the ski season.

Getting up the mountain from the village is fun and accessing various parts of the mountain is easy with the twelve-person gondola, which takes you from the village and connects you to the high-speed four-person chair lift. From there you can ski down either side of the mountain through the Meribel or Courchevel skiing areas.

The Village

Though it seems isolated and out of the way, La Tania’s village has many of the amenities and services that you might need while you are visiting. In the village centre there is a supermarket, a newsagents, a great bakery, a tourist office, and several different bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious meal after a day out on the slopes. There are also four different ski hire shops to help you get fitted before heading up onto the mountain.

La Tania is nestled into one of the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges and, to make things better, it is always quiet and calm because of the lack of noise in the village; La Tania’s centre is a traffic free zone. This allows visitors to hear the birds in the springtime and enjoy the peacefulness and quiet of winter. La Tania has a couple of hotels and apartments that offer accommodation but, in order to get the true Alpine experience, you should stay at one of the catered chalets tucked away between the high trees in the forests which surround the village.
